Water: Resources and Pollution

Step 1: Download and print the Unit 10 worksheets.

Then read Chapter 10 in your textbook (Principles of Environmental Science, 5th edition, by Cunningham and Cunningham) and answer the questions on your worksheets.

OPTIONAL: For each chapter in Principles of Environmental Science, the publisher's website includes additional information, tutorials, self-tests, and web links. This is an additional source of information to help students learn and synthesize the information presented in each Chapter. (Use of the publisher's website in this course is strictly optional.)

Step 2: For 24 assignment points, do the “Home Water Use Assignment.” In this activity, you will monitor your home water use for one week, use the data to determine patterns of water use in your home, then answer questions on your worksheets. The link to the instructions for this assignment is available below. The link to download the assignment worksheets is at the top of this page. When you have completed the assignment, turn in your worksheets at the front desk in the Biology Learning Center. Your instructor will grade the worksheets and return them in a few days.

Step 3: For 12 assignment points, do the “El Niño-Southern Oscillation Internet Activity.” This is a web-based activity that can be completed at home. The link to the instructions for this activity is available below. You will submit your answers via an online submission form. Your instructor will grade your answers and return them in a few days.

Step 4: For lab points, do the lab activity entitled "Water Taste Test." Part of this lab must be done in the Biology Learning Center. The link to the instructions for this activity is available below. The worksheet for this activity is in your Unit 10 lab worksheet packet. When you have completed the activity, take your worksheets to the front desk in the Biology Learning Center for lab points.

Step 5: Prepare for the Unit 10 Exam. Study your completed worksheets, and take the online self test. Remember to study the geographical regions and countries from your Unit 10 worksheets!

Step 6: Come in to the Biology Learning Center to take your Unit 10 Exam. The exam will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions, including map questions about the geographical regions and countries from your Unit 10 worksheets.
