Textbook assignment

Step 1:

Read Chap. 7, all pages, in your text and answer the related questions on your worksheets.

If you need help, there is an answer key at the front desk of the Biology Learning Center.

Textbook publisher's web activities

Step 2: Complete the following activities from the textbook publisher's website. Answer the related questions on your worksheet. These activities are from a previous edition of your textbook - that's OK. (Note: Only complete the activities listed below, not all of the activities for each text chapter.)

Chapter 9 textbook publisher's web activities

  • 9.2 - Explorations - Oxidative respiration (Recommended)
  • 9.2 - Glycolysis
  • 9.2 - Krebs Cycle
  • 9.2 - Electron transport (Requires real player)
  • 9.4 - Fermentation

To view the activities, you must have plug-ins for Shockwave and RealPlayer installed on your computer. Click here for directions to download the plug-ins.

Lab activities

Complete the following activities and answer the related questions on your worksheet.

Step 3: Complete Internet Activity - Metabolism Problem Set
(No points, but important for your test)

Step 4: Complete In-Class Activity - Respiration in Living Organisms
(for lab points)

Self quiz

Step 5: Review material from lesson 6 to prepare for your exam.

Use the self-quiz below to review material from lesson 6 that will be on your exam. These questions are similar, but not identical, to questions on your exam.

Optional

Biologymad - Photosynthesis and Respiration
Take a look at the "metabolism" and "respiration" links. This site also does a good job showing the interconnections between metabolism (this lesson) and photosynthesis (which you'll cover in lesson 7).

University of Cincinnati -Cellular Respiration and Fermentation
This site includes some interesting, "real life" explanations and analogies for cellular respiration and fermentation. The site also includes a link to a song about cellular respiration!

The Biology Project - Metabolism Problem Set
This problem set and the tutorials reinforce some fundamental concepts of metabolism.
