Brief
Course Description
Bio 290 Field Ecology: Marine Ecology is a 1-credit, 3-day
weekend class designed to compliment and enhance Bio 183 Marine
Biology. Students currently taking Bio 183 Marine Biology (and maintaining
a passing grade) and those who have successfully completed the class
in past semesters are eligible to take Bio 290 Field Ecology class.
Instructor permission is required to enroll; please contact
me for information. The class fee is $125 plus the cost of one
credit hour.
The
class will travel to Mexico for the purpose of examining the coquina
reef, boulder field, rocky reef, esteros, mud flats, and halophyte
fields found in and around Puerto Peñasco, Gulf of California.
Participants will examine first hand the common invertebrates, vertebrates,
and algae found in these diverse environments and be exposed to
some basic field biology survey techniques. Two nights will be spent
on the grounds of CEDO (Centro de Estudios de Desiertos y Océanos),
a marine field, environmental, and educational station located in
Las Conchas, Puerto Peñasco.
