|What can I expect in a CSA self-paced course?
Self-paced courses offer a unique learning experience. They are designed for students that can work virtually independently. There are no mandatory attendance requirements; however, if you need assistance on your class work, you need to attend during your instructor's scheduled lab hours.
Are self-paced classes right for you?
In order to successfully complete a self-paced class, you need to be a highly self-motivated, disciplined individual because you will be working independently and will not have the face-to-face interaction and instruction provided in the traditional classroom. You bear a greater responsibility for your own learning!
Textbook and Portable Storage information:
Textbooks and flash drives (USB port drives) are required for all classes offered in the SPC and can be purchased at the Downtown Campus bookstore. You are responsible for purchasing the correct textbook and returning incorrect textbooks by the bookstore refund deadline. Please see your instructor if you have questions regarding the purchase of textbooks for SPC classes. Additional information on textbooks, links to resources that may accompany your textbook, individual class web pages, and much more is located on this website.
Instructors are available during their scheduled lab hours to offer assistance to students registered in their classes. Students can work in the lab during any CSA Open Hours but can only receive assistance during their instructor's scheduled hours.
If you need to contact a specific instructor, visit that class’s web site for the instructor’s lab hours and email address.
Self-paced training is most effective when YOU are identifying and solving problems through your own computer interactions. Iinstructor assistance is not meant to provide excessive individualized instruction or tutoring. If your questions indicate that you have missed a skill development, the instructor may ask that you repeat portions of the hands-on lesson/tutorial.
While our classes are self-paced, they are not open-entry open-exit. All our classes are within Pima's normal semester time frame. We have deadlines within the semester for exams and assignments.
